Blast off

The three of them were building/playing in dens for ages. I heard Miriam crying, it was because Naomi had bitten her! By the time I got through Reuben said that they'd sorted it out. When they then came through a bit later and Reuben explained that Naomi had kicked and bitten Naomi (she occasionally does that kind of thing if Miriam pulls her down into a horizontal position), and Naomi demonstrated her kicking, I told Naomi that she should never kick. Reuben, very patiently, explained to me that it wasn't the right time to tell Naomi that, because he'd already told her off, and then after that they'd done some other things and had some fun.  :)

Miriam was cutting up her pizza and pointed out that 4/16 makes 1/4. Then Reuben asked her "What's an eight plus an eight plus a quarter plus a quarter? Miriam replied almost instantly 3/4. When I looked a little surprised she pointed out that she'd just done the first part of it. It just seems quite obvious to her.

Naomi continues to call for cuggles, which have to involve everyone in the vicinity - the other day this included a man I know slightly, but who I couldn't name! She doesn't always get her way. In the car last night Stan shook her hand, then she wanted his Mum (who was driving) to shake his hand, then My hand, then Reuben's hand. She communicates these things so that everyone can understand.

On the same car journey Miriam was making up a song, which mostly had the words 'come' and 'Naomi' in it. Naomi started singing it too 'come Nomi, come Nomi'. I just heard her start singing it again.

Naomi has started to call for "mit" - simit (Turkish bagel-shaped bread).

Naomi has started saying sorry. She says 'Dorry'. She says it when I tell the others to say sorry, but also said it when I told her off. Ironically, as I was writing this she started drawing on a book. I gasped and she said Dorry. Then she was about to draw on some papers on the desk. I said "No" and she said dorry, dorry, dorry, dorry. I'm not sure if this was drawing (which I realise she says the same way) or sorry or both.

Sometimes when I'm going up a steep hill with Naomi on my back she starts panting!

Reuben made a den for Naomi behind the sofa, with cushions to sit on and cushions for the roof. She can say 'den' and she asks me to 'come' and wants me to squeeze in to sit inside.

At cub camp Reuben did part of his photography belt loop. He took some good photos including:

He was proud to be part of the colour guard and to read out part of the ceremony. He loves to be the one who leads the cubs in the promise/ motto etc. Especially the motto, He calls out "Cubs do your best" and they all shout "We will do our best".

Reuben and William love to talk about "AM" - the meaning is secret just for them.

We got a bed and a pushchair for Rosie/Susan/Sam from some friends. For the first couple of nights, Reuben persuaded Miriam that it fitted very well in the corner by his bed, with Rosie and Sam in it, and Miriam had the pushchair with Susan in it. Then Miriam decided it was her turn. I went through to tell them to stop talking at bed time to find them measuring the space between their beds to make sure that the bed was exactly central and that Rosie was exactly central in the bed.

Reuben and Miriam were in a School Play called Spaced Out. They loved the song "Blast Off, on a great adventure" and often sang it at the breakfast table etc. It was dramatically done, with dry ice and flashing lights. Naomi joined in with the dancing. Since I wouldn't let her on stage she stood in line with the older kids who were lined up along the stairs b whenever she could,y our seats, joining in whenever she could.
